I was googling "sorsogon seminary" when i came across this news item which surprised me a bit.
Apparently, on March 19, 2006 an unidentified gunman shot and killed Cris Hugo, a 20-year old student leader at the Bicol University and a native of Irosin, Sorsogon.
The news article says that he spent about two years at OLPS Minor but then went out at the behest of his "father who didnt want him to be a priest."
I don't know this guy but from on his age he probably would have been a member of Batch 2002 and probably was in the seminary around 1998-2000
Anyway farewell Sano Cris. Your courage is admirable and you will be remembered.
Here's an excerpt from the article:
Seminarian
Cris came from a devout family. His parents were lectors, or scripture readers in their church. He also acted in theatre productions of their parish church.
“Ang gusto ‘nya talaga ay maging pari (He really wanted to be a priest),” her mother said. She revealed that he spent two years in high school at the Peñafrancia Seminary in Sorsogon City. He went out of the seminary on his third year because his father didn’t want him to become a priest.
“Para lang kaming magbabarkada niyan. (We’re just like friends),” his mother said as she stared at her son’s casket. “I even join his company of friends every time they are here. We would go out to a videoke bar and sing and have fun.”
“Napakabait ng anak ko. Hindi ko matanggap na agad siyang mawawala. Kahit sa mga kapatid niya, ang bait niya. Minsan pag-umuuwi iyan, may dala siyang pasalubong. Kahit ano, tulad ng scented candles. Napaka-thoughtful niya. (My son was very kind. I cannot accept that he would suddenly be gone. Even with his siblings, he was so kind. He even brought gifts for the family when he came home, even simple things like scented candles. He was very thoughtful),” she added....

como esta' paisano? Here is one of the picture taken last year of the reunion of sano in Texas. This was taken at the Maullons' house. Padre Maullon was busy inside the house entertaining the parishioner, that's why he was not included on the picture. Most of these sano are from Virac Can. in different batch.
The only person that I really know is Boyet Maullon batch '80. The 3rd guy from the right. The picture was taken the day you guys are doing the parade at the city of Sorsogon. We even have an open phone line on that day so that everybody can talked to their own classmates. It was fun..
our congratulations to aying ante who passed the recent 2005 bar exams. badaw, dako na harandaan ini ano aying hehehehe

Sano Mayor Ding Ramos addressing the whole assembly. Ding Ramos has been instrumental in sustaining the alumni group and has been very active in alumni affairs
these are pix from mene dimaano. i'll be posting one pix a day so ya'll have something new to see everyday that u visit.
these pix were taken during the first SANO assembly yata. am not very familiar with the SANO story but i vaguely remember my brother jay telling me about it. but it was so long ago. jay said it was a good reunion and everybody had loads of fun!
these probably were the officers getting sworn in. those in the know kindly supply the correct captions for the pix ok?
thanks again sano mene for sending the these pix. mapangadyi kami na hatagan ka sin dagdag na kusog para ma-scan an intero na pix mo hehehe
this is new yata. seems like minor seminaries in luzon are now holding a yearly sportsfest. pero this is for third year semianrians only. its called Sangkan. and olps was among the particpants in Sangkan 3.
during my time, there was BAMS and olps hosted it. i dont remember if we were the champs but i think we won in a lot of games hehehe ;-)
this is the news article about Sangkan 3
and this is a blog of a seminarian from guadalupe minor semianary on his participation in Sangkan 4. interesting naman mga blogs niya. nakakaremind nung kapanuhan natin kaya lang wala pa internet at blogs nun.
once you go to his blog just search for "sangkan"
kitaa baya ha kay mayadonon man ano :P
search for ms. sorsogon 2005 daw ini.
more deets and pix here
the sorsogon update site is diligently maintained by a guy named manny ferrer.
on his main page right now is a feature about the old houses of sorsogon starring an balay nira Pads Monje, nira miles mella
he has also lots of pix about sorsogon
kaya kun napupung-aw na kamo sa sorsogon bisitaha lang an website niya
this is a lame post :D but i got nothing new to post. this list probably was generated from spam email - kinda like a school alumni list. its interesting nonetheless.
click here to view the list
here's an article mentioning fr. pedro who currently serves as a parochial vicar at St. Barnabas Church, Bayville, N.J., in the Diocese of Trenton.
hmm, i wonder whats with filipino priests serving abroad? hehehe maybe we have so many priests that we have send them abroad too. ano kaya tawag sa kanila? OFP? overseas filipino priests :D
here's a website of SOLT priests. i only know two guys here, saligumba and andre. wonder what happened to the others coz there were many of them who attended coke seminary when i was a freshman there. they were great guys btw, easy to get along with and really serious about pursuing the priestly life -hehehe
apologies for the blurry shot of the 2nd most important equipment/equipment in the seminary. the much loved study table we call "pupitre".
i learned during 3rd year that the best way to get the best pupitre is to come a day ahead of the seminary school year opening and scope out the best and drag it over to my assigned spot.
we also had fun covering and decorating the pupitres with pictures (cars, sports, women, saints, hehehe) and stickers
the bell pretty much governed seminary life. it was probably the most powerful object in the whole of seminary :D in that it dictates what you do at a certain time period hehehe. but now in olps they use a big electric buzzer. dekorasyon na lang yata itong bell.
i remember that being the timekeeper was one of the most envied work assignment back then
mga sano, igwa palan ki website an sorsogon diocese. unfortunately, there's not much content there. but it has this pix of Pads- bagan sina padre totoy, albert, jun and fulay ini ada. ano daw kaya ini? boyband? :D
and on the bishop page, its weird coz it says "The Diocese of Sorsogon has two bishops. . ." ???
------------
fr. gerry del prado commented:
PADS is a boyband, sort of, hehe. it is actually composed of 6 priests (fr treb futol, alex jerus, jun elegado, edu fulay, totoy alcantara and ramil enteria).
It has already presented 2 concerts: PRIESTYLE - at the colegio de la milagrosa, several parishes in sorsogon, imus cathedral and a catholic school in paranaque.and PADS IN LOVE - a valentine concert presented ta the sorsogon gymnasium to raise funds for the diocese of sorsogon home for the clergy. We (i count myself in, as i have been drawm to the group to act as coordinator-manager, glorified alalay actually) have actually been featured in the philippine inquirer after pads in love.
PADS has come out with its eponymous CD, a collection of original compositions by alex j, treb and jun e. musical arrangement by sanni gargallo, at whose g cliff production studios in casiguran the recording was done. (hint: get a copy and help us market it. fr treb still has a lot of copies in sorsogon). PADS actually means Priest-Artists, Diocese of Sorsogon. We hope it's not a very ambitious name, building on a term of endearment (?) that sorsogon uses for priests.
About the two bishops, I suppose that was posted before Bishop Varela retired and the Nuncio appointed Bishop Bastes as auxiliary bishop with right of succession (upon Bp Varela's request in preparation for his retirement). Now, Bishop Varela is retired, and is Bishop Emeritus (with ministry outside the diocese, as he claims in the Corcuera article) and Bishop Bastes is the local ordinary. Incidentally, Bishop Varela is celebrating his Golden Priestly Anniversary this March.

thanks padre gerry!
Fr. Treb, can u email me updates about the pads? also i'll ask my brod jay to buy a CD from you and mail it to me so that i can feature it here. dont worry coz i wont make mp3s :-P
with all these rules, its no wonder that seminarians are oftentimes wary of the rector's presence.
the different fonts though kinda takes away the "seriousness" of the rules although it may be intentional on the rector's part hehehe (subterfuge baga), the better to mete out those "kneel down" punishments to the unlucky seminarista
